When the future of the historic Joseph Barker Jr. House near Marietta was in doubt some years ago, local preservation advocates banded together to make a difference.
On Sunday, those individuals – now members of the Friends of the Joseph Barker Jr. House – came together with invited guests to celebrate the transfer of building ownership to friendly hands.
The Barker House was included on the 2018 List of Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites, and was the focus of multiple rips by Preservation Ohio to Washington County over the last few years. The Friends’ Wesley Clarke recently became the newest member of the Preservation Ohio Board of Directors.
Sunday’s event included US Senator Rob Portman, ODOT Director Jack Marchbanks, and US Representative Bill Johnson. Preservation Ohio’s Board President Larry Frimerman was invited and attended the celebration ceremony.
