On December 5, nominations for the National Register of Historic Places, either as individual structures or as districts, were approved by the Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board. These will be forwarded to the Ohio State Historic Preservation Officer, who will in turn make official nomination to the Keeper of the National Register.

Included among those sites were the following:

Gay and High District in Downtown Columbus – this represents the single largest contiguous collection of period commercial buildings in Ohio’s Capital City, A total of 18 buildings were included, among which was the White-Haines Building located at 80-82 North High Street, previously included on the list of Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites.

The Staley House in North Madison – this is one of ten Ohio houses to have been designed by noted architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and if approved will become the 6th listed on the National Register. The Staley house was completed in 1950.

Campus of Wittenberg University in Springfield – includes no less than 28 buildings, representing the majority of the college campus.

Linden Community and Recreation Center in Dayton – built in 1931 and historically connected to the city’s African American community.

Main Street Commercial District in Middletown – a large area of downtown Middletown, including 14 buildings dating back to the 1830s.
