In May 1982, a group of Ohioans interested in the state’s historic resources met at the Ohio Departments of State Building, now home of the Ohio Supreme Court. There, the group official launched a new statewide non-profit corporation focused on advocacy for and education about Ohio’s remarkable collection of historic buildings, downtowns, neighborhoods, landscapes, and communities.

Almost 42 years later, the Ohio Preservation Alliance, Inc. is nearing four decades of service, operating under the name Preservation Ohio since 2005. Preservation Ohio enjoys remarkable institutional continuity; one of our original three founders is still a member of our Board of Directors. At the same time, we have a diversity in terms of age, background, and residence with our Board and Staff. Included are individuals with training and experience in city planning, downtown and neighborhood revitalization, advocacy, historic tax credits, law, conservation, architecture, and building renovation.

Since 1993, Preservation Ohio has been the home of Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites, issued annually to highlight significant pieces of Ohio history that face uncertain futures. Placement on this important list has led to the rescue and reuse of several landmarks statewide, the stories behind several of which can be found here (coming soon).

We invite you to become a part of preservation in Ohio by becoming a part of Preservation Ohio. Opportunities to do so can be found on this website and on our social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
