Kaiser Building, Akron -- An OHPTC project

Over the last several weeks, Preservation Ohio has participated with other stakeholders in the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program, providing assistance to the Ohio Department of Development as they reviewed the application and review process for the newly-enhanced credit.

Now, the time is fast approaching for applications for OHPTC, one of the most successful state preservation-related tax credits in the country. As the program website notes, “Over the seven funding rounds, $279.3 million in tax credits have been approved for 126 applicants to rehabilitate 158 historic buildings in 30 different communities. The program is projected to leverage $1.64 billion in private redevelopment funding and federal tax credits directly through the rehabilitation projects.”

The Department has posted a final draft application on site (click here to access), with the final version to be available on the same site on or before February 15.

Round 8 will include a slightly altered set of criteria for project scoring in this competitive review process. Applications for this new round will be due by March 31. A second round will take place later in the year, with a September 30 due date.

A recent addition to the program website has been a link to photos on Flickr reflecting previously-awarded tax credit projects. In the midst of the difficult news about recent and potential losses of historic resources across Ohio, this is remarkable visual confirmation that much wonderful preservation work is taking place on a daily basis.
