Preservation Ohio’s annual List of Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites received some notice this week from what might be considered a somewhat unlikely source — a news site in West Virginia!

That was the case when The Intellgencer and Wheeling News-Register from Wheeling, West Virginia shared an editorial entitled, “Preserving Ohio’s Treasured Places.”

The West Virginia news site’s market area includes a part of Ohio that is rich in historic resources. It also includes sites which have been included on our annual Most Endangered List.

The post reads in part,

Yes, it is fantastic to see some long-forgotten sites get a little recognition. Perhaps that will spark a movement to do something that actually saves the site and continues historic education in those communities.”

The editorial continues by rightly pointing out that the real work of preservation is done on the local, grass roots level.

For almost 40 years, Preservation Ohio has stood behind all of those hard working local advocates and provided encouragement, advice, and support. We are thrilled to be continuing that work in earnest as we approach that anniversary in 2022. Our first site visit to a 2021 Most Endangered List property takes place later this month.
