On Friday, April 28, Preservation Ohio held its first regional workshop for 2023 in conjunction with the Downtown Painesville Organization.

The venue for the event was the Morely Library in downtown Painesville, where local advocates and government officials joined from across Lake County. This is the 41st year that the organization has been reaching out to Ohio communities to assist in local preservation efforts.

The purpose of the workshop was two-fold. First, a presentation was made on the newest developments in tools and techniques to advance preservation and revitalization in Ohio communities. Second, a sneak peek at the 2023 List of Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites was on offer.

Tools discussed included recent developments in the legal framework for preservation in Ohio, enhancements to new financial incentives for preservation, changes to laws regarding land use, and even the recent introduction of artificial intelligence into the world of preserving the past. The presentation of the twelve properties included in the 2023 Most Endangered List featured photos and information on each.

Preservation Ohio is currently working on additional workshops. For more information and to bring a session to your community, contact Thomas at thomasatpo@gmail.com.
