On Saturday, September 19, Preservation Ohio made yet another visit to the home of one of Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites.

This time the trip was to the village of Arcanum in Darke County, where we met with members of the Arcanum Preservation Society as well as local government leaders.

After lunch at a local eatery, the group took a top to bottom tour of the remarkable Arcanum Town Hall & Opera House, a 1890 brick structure that is the focus of work and planning.

The building housed Village offices until recently. It continues to house Township officials, but work on the remainder has already begun with cleaning and an initial assessment. That same morning, the building was open in conjunction with Ohio Open Doors, and some 100 individuals toured the structure.

After the tour, Preservation Ohio Board and Staff met with our hosts and discussed a wide range of subjects related to the building’s preservation.

Many photographs were taken, several of which can be viewed here. Click two successive times on any photo for a larger image.
