Northeast and southwest parts of Ohio are home to several new listings on the National Register of Historic Places added over the last six months.

In Cleveland alone, four school buildings have been included. Period educational structures which have been discontinued under Ohio’s school construction program have proven to be opportunities for adaptive reuse projects.

Speaking of schools, the former West High School in Columbus was also placed on the National Register in the last several weeks. Northwest Ohio was represented by the listing of the Toledo City Market in Toledo.

The National Register of Historic Places provides a recognition of a property’s value to state and/or local history, a limited degree of protection against federal undertakings, and a set of opportunities for financial assistance for restoration and rehabilitation projects.
