Preservation Ohio has a 41 year history of traveling to all corners of the state to assist in local preservation efforts, share information, and to build a statewide network. Here are just a few of the places we have been over the last few years. This is our first set.
2015 TO JANUARY 2020
On January 25, 2020, our Winter Board Meeting took place in historic Mount Vernon. Highlights included a tour of the restored Woodward Opera House and associated buildings, a trip to view the remarkable Round Hill mansion, lunch and a discussion with the Knox County Landmarks Foundation on their work, and the Board Meeting at Ariel Foundation Park. Preservation Ohio Board members traveled to Defiance on April 6, 2019, a beautiful spring Saturday. There they met with those involved in an effort to preserve the 1918 Defiance High School. They also toured the building, which was included on the 2018 List of Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites. Click any image for a larger view.
A beautiful and snowy March 3, 2019 found Preservation Ohio in northeast Ohio. After a lunchtime Board meeting at The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake, we traveled to the Hubbard House in Ashtabula. There, we attended a workshop we co-sponsored with the Hubbard House Underground Railroad Museum and Ashtabula County Metroparks. Click any image for a larger view.
In November 2018, we traveled to Hayesville in Ashland County for a Board meeting. While there, we toured the remarkable Vermillion Institute and the Hayesville Opera House.
Our Summer 2018 Board meeting was held at the Harriet Beecher Stowe House in Cincinnati. It was at this meeting that the 2018 list of Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites was selected.
In February 2017, we took a behind-the-scenes tour of the Dayton Arcade, a multi-year listing on Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites, and met with local preservation advocates seeking to preserve this and other Dayton properties.
September 2016 saw us meeting with those seeking to preserve the historic Sorg Opera House in Middletown. The Opera House has been listed on Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites.
Our 2015 Annual Meeting took place in downtown Lima, where we enjoyed a guided tour of the Allen County Memorial Hall.
